A Memorandum of Understanding to launch the Handle with Care Program was signed into action before the regular BOC meeting on June 21. A partnership was formed between The Raise Me Up Foundation, Henry County Government, Henry County Public Schools and Henry County Public Safety including Police, Fire and EMA. The initiative aims to alert schools before a child returns to school, that the child has been involved in a traumatic experience and aims to assist children in coping with the experience. A local 501(c)3 non-profit, Raise Me Up Foundation, introduced and sponsored the launch of the program, which is one of the first in the state of Georgia. Commissioners, School Board Members, County leadership, Raise Me Up Foundation Board Members and Public Safety Officials were all present for the signing ceremony. July 5, 2022 Henry County Launches Nurse Navigation Line Henry County Nurse Navigation Program will provide residents with customized care options to meet theri specific medical needs for callers with non-emergent injuries or illnesses. The goal is to make it easier for residents to find a healthcare option that meets their specific needs while reducing the need to go to the emergency room. The program launched on June 28, 2022. If a caller’s medical complaint is non-threatening, which Henry County E-911 operators triage with emergency medical dispatch, the dispatcher may route those 911 calls to a licensed nurse for assessment. The nurse will assess the caller’s symptoms and identify their care needs. Care needs could include a virtual visit with a doctor or a referral to an alternate destination to assist in decreasing ER saturation.

The Nurse Navigation Program will allow Henry County Fire Rescue to allocate resources more efficiently and focus on promptly providing high quality patient care.


Board Approves Agreements and Purchases

The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved several resolutions at the June 21 Commission meeting. Items passed include:

• Police Department resolution – authorized the use of State Seized Funds for Major Joseph Smith to attend the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia in the amount of $5,056.

• Department of Transportation resolution – approved an Intergovernmental Agreement with Clayton County for resurfacing and base improvements to Bouldercrest Road, with a cost not to exceed $30,000; perfected the record for the contract with Heath and Lineback for Rabbit Run Road Bridge Design in the amount of $135,380.

• Transit resolution – authorized the purchase of one 16 passenger bus utilizing the Federal Transit Administration Cares Act Grant in the amount of $96,238.

• E-911 resolution – authorized the approval and execution of an intergovernmental agreement to share Henry County Government’s FCC Radio Station License with the City of Stockbridge Police Department.

July 5, 2022 BOC Awards Contract for Renovation of Mickie D. Cochran Park

The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to award a contract for Design/Build services for the renovation of Mickie D. Cochran Park to J.R. Bowman Construction Co. in the amount of $3,599,247.

Market Place and Association County Commissioners of Georgia/Georgia Local Government Marketplace. Major upgrades include: - New design to concession, restroom, and scorer’s building - New bleacher pads

The action came at the June 21 Commission meeting.

- New Basketball Courts - Quarter Mile Paved Loop Trail

The nearly $3.6 million dollar project is made possible using SPLOST V funds. SPLOST V was approved by voters in November 2019. Located in District IV, the park improvement is an approved District IV SPLOST V project.

- Large and Small Pavilion - Local Art Installation - Large Playground - Outdoor Fitness Area w/ shade covering - Multi- Purpose Sports Field

The Henry County Purchasing Department solicited proposals for the renovation and posted the request for proposal on the Henry County website, Team Georgia
